If you really want to get to the heart and soul of what Molton Brown is all about, you could do worse than watch its latest video. Explaining the inspiration behind its creation of ‘The Patisserie Parlour’, based on the Gourmand collection of fragrances, I could watch this film on loop. The soothing tones of perfume artist Christian Plesch's voice, and the mesmerising truffle dipping from Sarah Barber, are just a joy!
The ‘Gourmand Collections’ were created by master perfumer, Christian Plesch, using the finest seasonal ingredients, from the English countryside. Molton Brown then set Sarah Barber, Executive Pastry Chef at Hotel Cafe Royal, the task of re-imagining these fragrances as stunning, mouth-watering patisseries. I think she’s managed it!
The three collections comprise of ‘Comice Pear & Wild Honey’, ‘Rhubarb & Rose and ‘Vanilla & Violet Flower’; and they even supply the recipes, should you wish to give them a try (Vanilla & Violet Éclair anyone?). Beware though, much like the recipes in Sarah’s book, Patisserie Perfection, you probably want to become a pastry expert, before you attempt them!
Molton Brown’s philosophy is perfectly illustrated, in both the collections and the patisseries. There’s an attention to detail, and a never-ending quest to try to capture those smells, which satisfy our moods and our needs; to bring comforting fragrances that remind us of home, or bring freshness to summer and warmth to winter.
I could watch the video, over and over, and it would be all the better, surrounded by Molton Brown fragrances... and a few of those Rhubarb & Rose Truffles wouldn’t go amiss, either!
Let me know if you’ve got a favourite Molton Brown fragrance, and if you’ve tried the new Gourmand Collection – though it’s only been available since last Saturday. If any brave souls make the patisseries, you can tell me how they turned out… or send some, if you'd like a second opinion!
